Manchester City may end their apparent interest in Benfica centre-back David Luiz, according to the Guardian.
It had been thought that City would be willing to go the extra £2.5 million to secure the young defender’s signature but they may have changed their mind after refusing to pay over the odds for the player.
The report says that Benfica are holding out for £29.3m while City are only willing to go up to £26.8m to land the Brazilian.
The Citizens have already spent £60m this summer and seemingly believe that the Portuguese outfit have inflated their valuation of David Luiz because of their Abu Dhabi owners.
The Eastlands club had reportedly been hoping Luiz would join new arrivals David Silva, Yaya Toure and Jerome Boateng at the City of Manchester Stadium this summer.
David Luiz was the rock at the heart of the Benfica defence as they stormed to their first league title in five years last season and so his club are expectedly keen to keep hold of him.
